Of GMOs, Corporate Personhood, and Calvinism Part 2

                  Rene Decartes believed that humans are capible of both inductive and deductive reasoning.  Inductive reasoning is moving from general facts to an observation about a particular aspect of something.  Deductive reasoning is making a conclusion about the whole based on particular facts.  Also, Decartes believed that everything a human percieved with the five senses was real.  Hence, the phrase, "I think, therefore I exist", Rene Decartes.  However, a human could still hear a lie or read a fiction novel that is not about reality.  This epistimology went against the Aristotelian views held at the time.  In those days most people relied on sensation for knowledge.  This is vastly different from the modern idea of sensationalism.  The problem with this method was that it resulted in webs of arguments and counter- arguments.  While Decartes followed a logical argument for each idea he presented.  In his works he commented on the inner workings of the mind.  Also, he commented on many other topics including cosmology, ethics, spirituality, and the philosophy of existence.

This is a quote from Rene Decartes' Discourse on Methods and Meditation on First Philosophy Fourth Edition first published in 1637 Meditation Three: Concerning God That He Exists, "But if I got my being from myself, I would not doubt, nor would I desire, nor would I lack anything at all.  For I would have given myself all of the perfections of which I have some idea; in doing, I myself would be God!" 
                        I suspect that GMOs make companies like Monstersanto feel like Gods. I suspect that the connection is that some companies feel that humans are unworthy of food that does not contain GMOs and pesticides.  Also, I noticed a connection between secular Calvinism and automation because it assumes that machines will do the work better than humans to the disrespect of human reasoning.
                  In law a corporation is a "persona ficta" which means a ficticious person.  Corporate personhood gives corporations a devine status in law.  In law a ficticious person cannot die.  Therefore, a court cannot sentence a corporation to death.  The proposition of corporate personhood stems from a theological error made in the west.  In the middle ages the Knights Templar was created to carry out the crusades.  However, this group was given personhood.  Laws had to be changed in order to create the legal infrastructure neccessary for such a group to exist.  These ideas tend to effect the way management of a company thinks.  Many multi- national corporations think that they are God's gift to the world.  Its evident in David Rockefeller's memoir.  Furthermore, corporations have claimed the same sovereign that nation states posses.  This is evident as lobbying by corporations in America has a far greater impact on the laws passed in state governments and congress than that of the ordinary citizen.  I explained Corporate Personhood further in depth in a past blog.  Heres the link to it.  https://gap3516.blogspot.com/2018/12/of-corporate-personhood.html
                Automation can make people feel like a robot.  Human capital needs to be invested in to ensure the stability of the economy. Also, robots can never replace human creativity and reasoning.  Food that has GMOs and pesticides in it may be unhealthy. Healthy food free of GMOs, pesticides, and chemicals need to be invested in to ensure our long term health.  Russia never allowed GMOs and it has enough GMO free seeds to conor the market.  The situation in the Ukraine in 2015 in which a pro Russian government was toppled and replaced by a pro European Union government was about GMOs.  This is evident as Monsanto immediately shipped seeds containing GMOs to the Ukriane's ports as soon as the pro European Union government was in power. 
                Part of the reason the idea of Calvinism is popular in America is because of the idea of "American Exceptionalism".  This belief was formed in the early 1800s in New England.  They beleived that they were a shinning city upon a hill and that it was their duty to construct God's kingdom on Earth.  Also, they beleived it was the end of human evolution.  I do not by any means believe in "American Exceptionalism".   In other words, American Calvinism is "Yankeeism".
